No Wii U Crysis 3
Jan 7th 2013, 13:51

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli says "lack of business drive" between EA and Nintendo keeping new shooter off HD console.

Crysis 3 will not come to Wii U. Crytek CEO and founder Cevat Yerli told Digital Spy that a "business drive" between Electronic Arts and Nintendo is keeping the upcoming shooter off Nintendo's first high-definition console.

"There has been discussions between Nintendo and EA and Crytek, but the bottom line is that there is that there's not enough business drive in it," Yerli said. "It's a business decision between EA and Nintendo. If that business decision doesn't make sense, or seems to not make sense for them, it's… not possible for us to make it. We can't publish ourselves, and that's the bottom line."

Crysis 3 was never a sure thing for release on Wii U. In May 2012, Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard said there was "not a fat chance" that Crysis 3 would ever ship for Wii U. That wasn't the end of the story, though, as Yerli clarified two months later that the game was possible for Wii U.

Crysis 3 is a first-person shooter set in 2047 New York that casts players as Prophet, a supersoldier seeking vengeance. The game is due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 19, 2013. For more on Crysis 3, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Ouya reaching the UK in March for …99
Jan 7th 2013, 10:57

Report says Android-powered console could ship a month early, while a 3D-capable version of the machine is also in the works.

The Android-powered Ouya console could be available in the UK from March, according to a report published on Pocket-Lint this weekend.

A 3D-capable version of the device is rumoured to be in development.

The final price of the Ouya is also reported to be £99, which is slightly more expensive than the console's US price of $99 (about £61.63). The device famously raised $8.6 million from Kickstarter last year, making it one of the most successful crowdfunded projects to date.

While Ouya kits were shipped out to top-level US backers in December 2012, the Ouya website currently claims that general UK pre-orders will be shipped in April.

Pocket Lint's sources also state that some of the money raised from the hugely successful Kickstarter campaign is being put towards developing a version of the Ouya with support for stereoscopic 3D.

Alongside the Ouya, Nvidia this weekend announced Project Shield, its own Android-powered gaming device with the capability to stream games to your TV from your PC.

Nvidia announces portable Android-powered console
Jan 7th 2013, 07:01

New console dubbed 'Project Shield' to stream games from PC, will be powered by Tegra 4 processor; company touts Nvidia Grid cloud-gaming platform.

Graphics card maker Nvidia got the ball rolling at the 2013 Consumer Electronic Show by revealing a new portable gaming console/controller hybrid called "Project Shield."

The Android-based system runs games from Android's Google Play store, and also allows users to stream games installed on their home PC for play on the Shield's screen. Games demonstrated during Nvidia's press conference included Hawken and the PC versions of Need For Speed: Most Wanted and Assassin's Creed III.

Project Shield is based on the company's recently-announced Tegra 4 processor. It will have lithium batteries that last for 38 hours. In addition to a HDMI port, the system also has a micro-SD slot, micro-USB slot, and a headphone jack.

Attached to the controller itself is a five-inch, 1280x720 pixel HD multitouch screen that is based on a clamshell design. The system will also be able to output HD gameplay and video to a 4K TV screen. There is currently no word on "Project Shield's" price and release date.

Nvidia also pushed Nvidia Grid, a GPU that is specifically made for cloud-computing and cloud-gaming all across various PCs and smartphones that was announced back in May of 2012. The card can push out about 240 Nvidia GPUs worth of power, which is equivalent to about 700 Xbox 360s, according to Nvidia officials at the press conference. Currently, Nvidia's partners in conjunction with the card are Agawi, Cyber Cloud, Cloudunion, G-cluster, Ubitus and Playcast.

Telltale investigating save imports for next Walking Dead series
Jan 7th 2013, 04:00

The second season of popular episodic adventure series could allow players to import choices from the first season.

The next season of Telltale Games' Walking Dead episodic adventure series could allow players to carry over their choices from the first five episodes of the game.

Speaking with Red Bull UK, Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors told the site that the studio is currently figuring out how to carry saves over from the first season, which ended last November with the release of The Walking Dead: Episode 5 - No Time Left.

"Right now we are just starting to form the concept for season two," Connors said in the interview. "This all remains to be seen, but we are definitely figuring out how to carry the saves over."

Although Connors did not elaborate on what the next season of The Walking Dead game will hold, he did reveal Telltale's ambitions for future projects, including the possibility of a Star Wars title.

"Coming from LucasArts, we always felt we could do a great Star Wars story game. We also love the idea of building out a deeper story to a great game franchise, something like Half Life Stories or Halo Stories."

The first episode of The Walking Dead--released in April last year--was downloaded over 1 million times across PC, Mac, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live in two weeks. The fifth and final episode of the first season was the top-selling PSN title in November.

Telltale's Walking Dead is a single-player episodic game based on Robert Kirkman's comic book series. It stars Lee Everett, a man convicted of a crime, but given a chance to redeem himself, albeit in a world infested with the undead.
