It only takes one look at Tales of Xillia to realize that Namco-Bandai's long-running RPG series isn't above preaching to the choir. Where bigger franchises in the genre tend to experiment, delivering altogether different (and sometimes unfortunate) experiences with every iteration, like Dragon Quest, the Tales of series errs on the side of familiarity.
At Namco-Bandai's recent event to promote Tales of Xillia's Summer 2013 release, I hopped on a demo station and within seconds adapted to the latest refinement of the series' Linear Motion Battle System, which has been providing a refreshingly action-based alternative to turn-based RPG battles since 1996. Really, the greatest strength of the Tales franchise has always been its engaging and satisfying enemy encounters, and the brief time I spent with Xillia's showed me that Namco-Bandai wouldn't be breaking this trend anytime soon.
