Microsoft to give away free game with Xbox One consoles - Report Aug 19th 2013, 17:37 Microsoft bundling a free game with the Xbox One in Europe to tempt customers away from the PlayStation 4, reports CVG and MCV.
Microsoft could be gearing up for a Gamescom 2013 announcement that it will bundle a game for free with every European Xbox One at launch, in an attempt to lure customers away from buying a PlayStation 4 later this year, both CVG and MCV have reported. The move is designed to make the Xbox One's £429 price tag more appealing over Sony's PlayStation 4, which will be sold for £349. CVG reports that a "major third-party title" will be bundled free with every Xbox One, with an anonymous source saying it would be the same title Microsoft executive Phil Spencer was teasing for a Gamescom 2013 reveal. Microsoft is reportedly spending millions on the deal, says the site. The site also reports that Microsoft could be lining up a similar promotion for North American buyers. Meanwhile, MCV reports that Microsoft has signed a deal with EA to bundle copies of FIFA 14 with the Xbox One. FIFA is one of the biggest games in Europe, with FIFA 13 selling more than three million copies in the UK alone. Sony has already pledged that PlayStation Plus subscribers will get a version of upcoming next-gen racer DriveClub for free when the PlayStation 4 launches later this year. Microsoft will release the Xbox One in November. Shadowrun Returns' Berlin DLC add-on has been delayed until 2014 so that it can be turned into a fully-fledged expansion, developer Harebrained Schemes has announced on Kickstarter. The Berlin content was originally intended to ship in October. "However, after listening to your forum discussions and feedback, it became clear that you would like to see something bigger (and so would we)," said Harebrained Schemes. "So, we've decided to spend more time on Berlin to create an experience closer to the size of Dead Man’s Switch," the game's current campaign, set in Seattle. Harebrained Schemes says it is in the early stages of development for the Berlin expansion, but that the team is looking to create a more flexible story arc than in Dead Man's Switch, alongside NPC characters with more depth, more magical creatures, and improved gameplay for the Physical Adept class. "We want our next story to feel more like the player is part of a shadowrunning crew and contain more corporate intrigue," added the developer. The Berlin expansion will also contain new assets for the community to use in their own content.
