GameStop to sell retailer-exclusive Skylanders Swap Force Dark Edition Aug 13th 2013, 04:19 Skylanders Swap Force Dark Edition coming to GameStop and EB Games this October; pack will feature five exclusive colour variant characters.
Skylanders Swap Force, the upcoming title in Activision’s toy-based game series, is set to receive a retailer-specific version: Skylanders Swap Force Dark Edition, GameStop has announced, as reported by Business Wire. The Dark Edition Starter Kit, which will be exclusive to GameStop in North America and EB Games in Australia, will include five Dark Edition figurines. These are Dark Washbuckler, Dark Blast Zone, Dark Stealth Elf, Dark Spyro, and Dark Slobber Tooth. The kit will come with a copy of the game, a portal of power, a character poster, five sticker sheets with secret codes, and five trading cards. The bundle will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Wii U, and is currently listed at $99.99 (A$119), which is a $25 (A$21) premium on the $75 ($A98) standard Swap Force starter pack. The game will go on sale in mid October, with current-generation console versions available for pre-order now. Skylanders Swap Force, the third game in the series, will allow players to mix and match tops and bottoms of toys to create new character and ability combinations. Activision recently announced that the franchise has passed more than $1.5 billion dollars in sales globally since launching in 2011. The Witcher series developer CD Projekt Red is teasing a reveal with a countdown timer on the official Witcher website. The timer is positioned next to a The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt logo, and accompanied by options to share the feature on various social media platforms. Users are able to download a file of "Goodies", which contains wallpapers and music from the game. The website reveals no additional details, leading to speculation as to what CD Projekt Red will announce when the timer ends in one day and 16 hours. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was announced by CD Projekt Red in February this year. The game is scheduled for release by the end of 2014 on PC and next-gen platforms including the PlayStation 4, marking the first time a Witcher game has been released on a Sony console. The Xbox One version will feature SmartGlass support for inventory management and "character development". CD Projekt Red has yet to disclose any PS4-specific features. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunter will be the final Witcher game. CD Projekt Red is also developing Cyberpunk 2077, a new role-playing game set in a "dark future", where advanced technologies have become "both the salvation and the curse of humanity". Microsoft chief product officer Marc Whitten has confirmed that though every Xbox One will ship with a new version of Kinect, the camera will not need to be plugged in for the next-generation console to function. "Like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn't plugged in, although you won't be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor," Whitten told IGN. He added that users will have the ability to "completely" turn off the Kinect through system settings. When toggled "off," the Kinect is not collecting any information at all, Whitten said. "You can turn the sensor back on at any time through settings, and if you enter into a required Kinect experience (like Kinect Sports Rivals for instance), you'll get a message asking if you want to turn the sensor back on in order to continue," he said Whitten also confirmed that there will be no cross-platform voice chat between Xbox 360 and Xbox One, though players will be able to send text messages between the consoles. He also revealed that an Xbox One user will be able to see what their Xbox 360 friends are playing and vice versa. The Xbox One launches in November for $500. Square Enix has cut roughly 12 positions at Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics, the publisher confirmed with Kotaku today. The cuts came from the team working on the company's previously announced all-new franchise and will not affect development on the next-generation Tomb Raider sequel. "We've made some decisions at Crystal Dynamics last week around the second project we’re working on, which has resulted in a small number of roles (roughly 12) becoming redundant as we re-scope the project," the company said. "This doesn't affect the Tomb Raider development team, who as confirmed last week are well into production on a next-generation sequel," the statement goes on. "We're a close-knit team at Crystal and wouldn't be making these changes if we didn't feel it was absolutely necessary. We'll help those affected as best we can and we want to thank them for their hard work and commitment." The new IP from Crystal Dynamics was announced in January 2012. No information about the game has been revealed since. Read and Post Comments | Get the full article at GameSpot | |
