Kojima has dinner with Guillermo del Toro
Jun 10th 2013, 13:37

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima meets with Pacific Rim, Pan's Labyrinth director to talk games and movies.

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima recently had dinner with Pacific Rim and Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.

"Great dinner with Guillermo Del Toro," Kojima tweeted last night. "We talked about movie, game, Anime, Manga, & Kaiju."

Del Toro is a fan of the game industry, having launched into development of horror game InSane. He also included the voice of Portal's GLaDOS in a trailer for Pacific Rim.

In January, del Toro said he had lined up a "big company" to revive InSane, which now-bankrupt publisher THQ cut loose last year.

"I can’t say who, but it’s one of the big ones," he said at the time. "They really responded to the game; they responded to what we were trying."

Just Dance 2014 leaked
Jun 10th 2013, 13:09

Product page for unannounced dancing game from Ubisoft emerges ahead of E3.

A product page for "Just Dance 2014" has emerged on Xbox.com ahead of Ubisoft's 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing later today.

The page has since been taken down, but not before a NeoGAF forum member was able to capture information and screenshots.

"The latest opus of the Just Dance franchise will make you dance even more and will be once again the ultimate casual rendezvous of the year. This new opus will be even more social as you will be able to connect and dance with players from all over the world and share a unique dancing experience with them," reads a line from the game's description.

Just Dance 2014 is said to include "iconic" pop culture references, as well as new modes. A tracklist was not provided, though one image shows the Ghostbusters, suggesting the familiar song from the movie series may be featured in the game.

Ubisoft's 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing takes place today at 3 p.m. PDT. GameSpot will be on hand at the event.

Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key said last year that Just Dance has surpassed Guitar Hero to become the "greatest party game ever made." At the time, he also said he believes the franchise will exist longer than Guitar Hero because it focuses on current music and not classic tunes, like Guitar Hero.

The most recent entry in the Just Dance series was last year's Just Dance 4, which has shipped 8 million units thus far. The entire series has sold over 25 million copies to date.

New Dragon Age information will be revealed at tomorrow's EA press conference, a BioWare employee has said.

Amazon has also previously listed Dragon Age III for Xbox One.

EA's E3 2014 press conference will be taking place from 12:20PT on July 10. GameSpot will be streaming the event live alongside covering the announcements on the site.

EA Partners is 'open for business,' says exec
Jun 10th 2013, 05:57

EA Games Label president says communicating the future of the publishing label wasn't "particularly well executed on our part."

EA has said that, despite recent reports, its EA Partners publishing label isn't closing down.

"I understand why you might believe that," said EA Labels president Frank Gibeau in an interview with Polygon about whether the Partners program had been closed. "I don't think the communication of that has been particularly well executed on our part."

Gibeau says that job cuts in the EA Partners team were due to there being more staff than there were projects, and that EA was focusing on internal development during the transition to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

"We are absolutely open for business to partner with developers out there," said Gibeau. "In fact on mobile, as an example, with our Chillingo team, we just published three games this week. On the console front, honestly, when you're in a transition, you tend to focus in on your internal titles and put most of your attention there and most of your capital to make sure you get your studios positioned and configured for that. So we're definitely looking to do that."

"We had, frankly, too much capacity inside of our EA Partners team to handle more projects than we were in position to want to have right now," he said. "That was what was the scaling back of it was."

"But Partners is open for business," he concluded.

Over the past few years EA Partners has published titles such as Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, Bulletstorm, Shadows of the Damned, Crysis, the Rock Band series, Brutal Legend, and ill-fated MMO APB.

Insomniac's Fuse was also recently released with EA Partners, and Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall will be published under the label.
