New Hawken update to feature Raider mech and additional map Mar 7th 2013, 02:34 Other additions include server browser options, holo taunts, and new balance changes.
The next update to the open beta mech combat title Hawken is already out now for the public. The Raider update adds a new mech for players to use. The Raider is focused on engaging enemies up close with its blitz ability. Its default weapons are a rapid-fire shotgun, a chargeable shotgun, and a dual mode MIRV/grenade launcher. The update also adds in a server browser option where players can join specific friends in battle or fight against players with equal ranking levels. Gamers also have access to five free holo taunts for use during matches. The patch also introduces a new map called Facility. While it is still a work-in-progress, players can still select it and test it out using the server browser option. The game…s weapons have been balanced, too, specifically explosive weapons, repair drones and thruster nozzles. Players can now un-equip internals by selecting the empty option on the customization screen. For more information, visit the game…s detailed notes on the update. Microsoft has canceled Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski's Kinect game Matter, the company confirmed to Joystiq today. It was to be developed in partnership with the film director and Blind Wink Games and release on Xbox Live Arcade this year. "Microsoft Studios is no longer pursuing this title," Microsoft said. "We have no further details to share at this time." Verbinski signed an exclusive deal with Microsoft in 2011 to deliver "original interactive entertainment content" to Microsoft platforms across the world. Matter was to be the first project in this arrangement. The deal was also to include media beyond games. It is not clear if the entire Verbinski-Microsoft deal has been scuttled, or just Matter. A Microsoft representative provided the same comment as above. The Kickstarter campaign for Planescape: Torment spiritual successor Torment: Tides of Numenera has smashed its $900,000 target in less than six hours. At time of writing 19,630 backers have pledged a total of $1,026,031 to the project. Kickstarter projection site Kicktraq currently sees the game trending towards a total of $27,893,490 by the end of its thirty day duration. The project has not set any specific stretch goals yet, though the Kickstarter page says it will add these once funding has been reached. There's some hints at what to expect, however: "some planned Stretch Goals include adding more writing talent (including some names you may find familiar), increasing the number of companions, and adding more Mark Morgan music (including some live orchestra pieces)." Torment: Tides of Numenera is an isometric RPG due out at the end of 2014, and is being built in the Unity engine for PC, Mac, and Linux. The game is not a sequel to celebrated 1999 PC RPG Planescape: Torment, though is attempting to be a similarly deep exploration of a thoughtful narrative. The game's primary theme is a question: What does one life matter? Many key staff from the original Planescape: Torment are on board at developer inXile, including writer Adam Heine and designer Colin McComb. inXile boss Brian Fargo was also the founder of Planescape: Torment publisher Interplay. Torment: Tides of Numenera takes place on the Ninth World of Numenera, a fantasy land set in the far distant future where humanity lives atop the ruins of eight previous civilizations which have previously ruled the planet. inXile has based the game upon the tabletop RPG Numenera by Monte Cook, who himself originally worked on the Planescape D&D setting which the original Torment was based upon. The tabletop Numenera was also a successful Kickstarter project. inXile has already seen Kickstarter success of its own with Wasteland 2, and many of the developers currently working on that will also contribute to Torment: Tides of Numenera.
