Bethesda launches $299 Skyrim Dragonborn statue Mar 12th 2013, 17:21 Hand-painted Dragonborn statue measures 16 inches tall, and will be shipping later this year.
Bethesda has announced a limited edition series of Dragonborn statues for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Designed by GamingHeads, Bethesda says the polystone figures are hand-painted and hand-finished, and measure approximately 16 inches tall. The model is based on Skyrim's recognisable key art of the Dragonborn standing atop a dragon's tail. Two different figures will be available. The standard model, which features the Dragonborn holding a sword in his right hand and a dagger in the left, costs $299.99 and is limited to 1000 units worldwide. The exclusive edition, however, is priced at $329.99 and is limited to 500 units, but features an additional interchangeable arm which holds a pulsing fireball. The models can be pre-ordered now and are expecting to ship in Q4 2013, "just in time for the holidays" according to Bethesda. Both models also feature a certificate of authenticity and a numbered base. International shipping is also available. For more information check out GamingHeads. Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine has explained why he decided to kill the BioShock movie, which Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was at one time set to direct with Universal Pictures. Speaking at a BAFTA event in London last night, as reported by Edge, Levine said the commercial shortcomings of 2009's The Watchmen may have led to Universal executives getting cold feet about greenlighting the project. …There was a deal in place and it was actually in production at Universal, and Gore Verbinski was directing it,… Levine said. …And what happened was--this is my theory--it…s a very big movie and Gore was very excited about it and he wanted to make a very dark, what he would call a …hard-rated… horror film--an R rated film with a lot of blood. Then The Watchmen came out--and I really liked The Watchmen--but it didn…t do well for whatever reason and the studio got cold feet about making an R-rated $200 million film." Levine said Verbinski was not interested in making a BioShock movie with a reduced budget, believed to be somewhere around $80 million, and so he left. "And so they brought another director in and I didn…t really see the match there. Take Two is one of those companies that gives a lot of trust to their creative people and so they said to me, …If you want to kill it Ken, kill it…. And I killed it." Levine did not name this new director outright, though it was previously revealed that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intact) was brought on following Verbinski's departure. Fresnadillo dropped out a year ago this month. …Which was weird, having been a screenwriter going around begging to re-write any script to being in a position where you…re killing a movie that you worked so much on," Levine said of cancelling the movie. "It was saying, 'You know what? I don…t need to compromise…. I had the [Bioshock] world, and I didn…t what to see it done in a way I didn…t think was right.… The BioShock film was first announced in 2008, with Verbinski attached to direct. Production was halted the following year due to concerns over the project's ballooning $160 million budget. Verbinski clarified the film's fate last year revealing that the BioShock movie's budget would only be approved for a PG-13 take on the material, a compromise he felt was unacceptable. The BioShock series continues this month with the release of BioShock Infinite. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage. Sony is now selling the 3G PlayStation Vita model for $250, a markdown of $50 from its original $300 launch price. The portable is available at the discounted rate through Sony's official website only. The bundle includes a system, an 8GB memory card, and a free PlayStation Network title. The price drop for the 3G PS Vita puts it in line with the Wi-Fi version, which currently retails for $250. It is not clear if this is an official price drop or a limited-time offer. A Sony representative was not immediately available to comment. Separately, Joystiq reports that Sony stores across the United States are selling the 3G PS Vita for $199, with some retail representatives noting the device may be discontinued. Sony president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida said last month that a PS Vita price cut for North America was not in the cards. In Japan, the recent price drop for the device led to sales jumping by a factor of four GameStop president Tony Bartel said earlier this month that a PS Vita price cut ahead of the PlayStation 4 launch this year would "make sense." A new DayZ devblog has been released by creator Dean "Rocket" Hall, showing the first in-game footage of the shambling zombies in the upcoming standalone version of the game. While the actual look of the zombies will be changed for the final version, the 21-minute video also details how the zombie pathfinding has been improved in DayZ standalone, allowing the speed of the zombies to be lowered to similar ranges of the players themselves. But the major difference between the upcoming standalone and the current mod version is that zombie spawning is now controlled entirely by the server. At the moment about 3000 zombies can be spawned, but Hall says that total number will increase "quite dramatically" before the final version of the game is released. The video also shows the formative stage of the new inventory and crafting systems, although the menus are not ready to be shown off just yet.
