Firaxis teases new project Mar 23rd 2013, 22:36 Civilization studio shows teaser trailer for "big" project that won't be discussed for "a while."
BOSTON--Civilization V and XCOM: Enemy Unknown developer Firaxis Games today teased its next major project. Before debuting a teaser trailer for the game during a PAX East panel today, designer Jake Solomon said, "It's big," noting that "we're not going to be able to talk about it for a while." The trailer showed a shadowy figure and featured voiceover saying the following: "Hello, Commander. The war continues at great cost. We now believe another force is at work against us. If not dealt with swiftly, it could destroy us. What we are able to tell you…" it went on, before fading out. At this time, text on-screen appeared that read: "Signal Lost." BOSTON--Today during PAX East presentation, Firaxis Games announced that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is "coming soon" to iOS devices. The game will be playable on both iPad and iPod Touch. The game is up and running for iOS at present, but Firaxis said it will need an additional few months before the game is ready for release. No price for XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS was mentioned. Firaxis also today announced that XCOM: Enemy Unknown will launch for Mac April 25. BOSTON--Firaxis today announced during a PAX East panel that Civlization V: Brave New World will launch July 9 in North America, followed by a release in Europe on July 12. Brave New World is the second expansion for 2010's Civilization V, following last summer's Gods & Kings add-on. The expansion is geared around tweaking the game's culture and diplomacy mechanics and also offers nine new Civilizations, eight new Wonders, and two new scenarios. Brave New World also introduces the World Congress and the concept of international trade routes. The World Congress will convene on issues like trade sanctions, hosting the World Games, and the use of nuclear weapons. Electronic Arts announced today that four-person co-op shooter Fuse will launch May 28 in North America, with a European release to follow May 31. Fuse is the first multiplatform title from Insomniac Games and is due out for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, not PC. EA also today revealed a series of preorder bonuses available for Fuse at select retailers. Gamers who reserve the title will receive four Hyperion Prototype Armor Skins, four Hyperion Prototype Weapon Skins, and a Quickdraw Team Perk that increases weapon damage. The story for Fuse goes that the United States government has spent many years experimenting with a secret alien substance called fuse, which when combined with earthly materials, is used to create devastating weaponry. A rogue paramilitary organization elects to steal the fuse technology, and a task force (the player) is called in to track it down. BOSTON--Today during a presentation at PAX East, BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson said the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise will be "fresh and new." This game will be primarily developed by BioWare Montreal and Hudson will serve as the game's executive producer. "We are starting to get ready to develop another Mass Effect game and it's going to be a new thing," Hudson said. "We want to be able to give fans an opportunity to get back into the world with these things you've come to know and love about the Mass Effect experience, but start something fresh and new; a new way for you to explore the whole universe in Mass Effect." In addition, Hudson today confirmed that the Mass Effect movie with Legendary Pictures remains in production, though no release date or casting details were divulged. "Hopefully it should be seen as a good thing," Hudson said of the movie. "Because what we're looking at are, I think, the right things to make sure it's going to be great. It's not just going to be a movie. It's going to be really special." Lastly, Hudson reiterated that BioWare is working on an all-new intellectual property. Specific details on this project were not mentioned, though Hudson said he hopes this project could match the trajectory of the Mass Effect series. "That's kind of our next thing. We're focusing on delivering something new, the way we did at the very beginning of Mass Effect," Hudson said. BOSTON--Mass Effect 3 players prefer a male Shepard. As part of a PAX East presentation today, BioWare revealed that 82 percent of gamers played a male Commander Shepard in the game. BioWare also shared a range of other statistics for Mass Effect 3 during the panel today. According to the developer's data, the soldier was the most used single-player class at 48.7 percent. In addition, the developer said 64.5 percent of Mass Effect 3 gamers played Paragon, while the remaining 36.5 percent played Renegade. The Mass Effect presentation is happening now.
