God of War: Ascension 'Bros before Hos' Trophy to be altered Mar 11th 2013, 22:59 Sony addresses "offensive" Trophy for upcoming PlayStation 3 game, will rename it to "Bros Before Foes" through upcoming patch.
God of War: Ascension developer Sony Santa Monica today confirmed that the game's "Bros before Hos" Trophy will be altered through an upcoming patch. Once gamers apply the patch, the Trophy will become "Bros Before Foes," according to Joystiq. The developer provided a statement to GameSpot on the matter, saying after concerns were raised to the the studio, the decision was made to alter the "offensive" Trophy title. "We have created and will soon push out a patch for God of War: Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies. The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game," Sony Santa Monica's statement reads. "We are endlessly committed to ensuring that our community can fully enjoy the experiences the team has created," the statement goes on. "As such, we've addressed the feedback and amended the Trophy in question."" Joystiq reports the Trophy is unlocked when players vanquish Fury, one of the game's female antagonists. God of War: Ascension launches tomorrow exclusively for PlayStation 3. For more, check out GameSpot's review. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima believes the arrival of next-generation consoles will present various difficulties for developers. To combat these challenges, the industry veteran explained to Edge that developers could release TV-style "pilots" to see if gamers are interested before moving forward. “It“s possible to make many things more realistic, but that doesn“t mean you should," Kojima said. "You have to prioritize, and that is what“s going to separate the teams that succeed from the teams that don“t. [But] I think there“s a different way of tackling this problem: something similar to a TV series, where you can use pilot episodes to test the waters before you jump completely into the project." Kojima explained that these pilot episodes could be delivered through digital channels, allowing consumers to try a game out while production on the overall title continues. He estimated development on a new pilot could be completed in a year. “I think there“ll be a social aspect to game creation, because it will be more interactive," Kojima said. "You“ll get user feedback, and I think there“ll be this back-and-forth between users and creators.“ Kojima is not the first to speak of episodic content as a component of next-generation game development. Sony president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida revealed last month at the PlayStation 4 unveiling that the platform will support episodic content and free-to-play games, though he did not go into any greater depth. Episodic game development is a method chosen by few in the industry, though for some it has been a success. TellTale Games created numerous episodic adventure games for PC before breaking through with last year's The Walking Dead, which was well received and has sold 8.5 million episodes to date. Star Wars: First Assault, which emerged last October, is a downloadable multiplayer shooter. That's according to a Kotaku source, who told the site the unannounced game was originally pegged to release this spring, but is now in limbo following Disney's high profile acquisition of the Star Wars franchise last year. According to the source, LucasArts parent company LucasFilm suspended all hiring and game announcements when it caught wind that Disney would take over the brand. First Assault was reportedly going to be announced in September, with a beta to follow by the end of the month, and a full release sometime this spring. LucasArts is now reportedly "bleeding talent" as developers wait to determine the fate of First Assault, as well as the potentially stalled Star Wars 1313. As for First Assault, Kotaku's source claims it supports 16 players: a team of eight Stormtroopers and a second team of eight rebels. Battles are said to take place in places like Bespin and Tatooine. First Assault is also reportedly "step zero" to Star Wars: Battlefront III, a test of sorts for Star Wars shooter games that run on the Unreal Engine. If the game is successful, it could lead to the release of the long-in-development--and heavily debated--Battlefront III. A LucasArts representative was not immediately available to comment.
