Release date, Spider-Man actor Willem Dafoe confirmed for Quantic Dream's upcoming PlayStation 3-exclusive.
Beyond: Two Souls will launch October 8 exclusively for PlayStation 3, Sony announced today. The game was previously expected to release sometime in 2013.
In addition, Sony revealed that Spider-Man and Platoon actor Willem Dafoe will star in the game as Nathan Dawkins, a government scientist working with main character Jodie Holmes, played by Ellen Page (Juno, Inception).
Sony also today announced preorder bonuses for Beyond: Two Souls. Those who reserve the game at GameStop (or EB Games in Canada) will receive an "exclusive" 30-minute playable scene. More details on this will be made available at a later date.
On top of that, all who preorder the game will receive an automatic upgrade to the Beyond: Two Souls Special Edition. This includes a steelbook packaging, a behind-the-scenes video feature, the game's soundtrack, a PS3 dynamic theme, and a PlayStation Network avatar bundle.
CD Projekt Red claims main story accounts for 50 hours, with another 50 for "additional stories"; new screenshots released.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt boasts 100 hours of total playtime, developer CD Projekt Red said today. The main narrative accounts for about 50 hours, while "additional stories" add a further 50 hours, the company claimed.
In addition, CD Projekt Red released new images of The Witcher 3 today. Set on the islands of Skellige, the screenshots are based on an early version of the game.
They do not make use of new rendering technology, which will be used in the final game, the developer said. The Witcher 3 is due out in 2014 for "high-end" platforms, including the PlayStation 4.

By-mail and PC on-demand game service hit with layoffs as part of a restructuring effort; 15 percent of staff have been cut.
Restructuring at GameFly has led to a round of layoffs affecting 15 percent of the company, Joystiq reports. GameFly CEO Dave Hodess released a statement on the matter to the site, saying no significant changes will come to pass as a result of the cuts.
"We studied our business and determined that we could operate with a smaller team while continuing to provide the same high level of service to our customers," Hodess said.
"Aside from a greater focus in our software development efforts, we're not making any significant changes in our console subscription or digital download businesses. GameFly remains profitable with a strong balance sheet."
Future generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony are believed to emphasize digital distribution, which could spell trouble for a company like GameFly. However, in addition to the company's by-mail service, the firm owns the Direct2Drive platform, allowing gamers to purchase and play PC titles.
The IGN ProLeague 6 event scheduled for March 28 through 31 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas will be cancelled, multiple sources close to the situation have told GameSpot.
Sponsors of the IGN ProLeague event have told GameSpot the products they sent over for sponsorship are being returned to them. Korean-based league OnGameNet said yesterday that the IPL6 League of Legends Korean qualifiers have been cancelled due to change in management policies and financial difficulties.
The IPL website has also removed links on the front page to reserve hotel rooms for the weekend.
Professional teams, players, casters, media, and fans from around the globe have already bought plane tickets and hotel reservations to IPL6. Executives from several teams have told GameSpot they have already paid for plane tickets for their players to play through the open bracket.
Players who have qualified online to the main event would have had their accommodations taken care of.
’Generally speaking, such flights cannot be refunded,’ Axiom Gaming Head of Marketing John ’Totalbiscuit’ Bain told GameSpot. ’Flexible tickets are far more expensive and so eSports teams do not usually purchase them. In our case, were IPL6 not to go ahead, we are able to get the majority of the flight money back due to the choice of airline."
"Some other teams may not be so fortunate since most airlines do not refund those tickets,’ added Bain. ’So, essentially, those who were bringing players to the open bracket are probably going to take the hit. It will be a non-issue for those who qualified since they were not paying for it to begin with.’
IPL6’s expected cancellation comes shortly after the announcement of Ziff Davis parent company J2 Global’s purchase of IGN. An internal memo by Ziff Davis CEO Vivek Shah, posted on Polygon, said the company was looking for active buyers of IPL. "IGN's role going forward will be to broadcast and cover a variety of eSports events,’ said Shah.
Potential buyers for the IPL brand have said to have reached a wide range of options, from other leagues to game publishers and developers.
Both IPL and IGN declined to comment when approached by GameSpot.
FPS was originally due to be coming out in March; publisher Deep Silver promises extra time will be spent improving game.
Apocalyptic first-person shooter sequel Metro: Last Light will be released in Europe on May 17, the game's new publisher Deep Silver has announced.
Metro: Last Light will see its United States release three days earlier on May 14. The game will be coming out on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
The game, a sequel to 2010's Metro 2033, was originally set to be released in March by now-defunct published THQ. Deep Silver acquired the rights to the game earlier this month for a reported $5.9 million.
Koch Media CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said developer 4A Games will use the extra time to make additional improvements to the game. "We won't leave that time unexploited and will work closely together with 4A Games to make the game even better. It will receive all the attention it deserves."
