Don Mattrick leaving Microsoft for Zynga - Report Jul 1st 2013, 17:37 Xbox One executive reported to be leaving Microsoft, with official announcement said to be arriving as early as today.
Xbox president Don Mattrick is leaving Microsoft and is close to taking the role of CEO at social gaming giant Zynga, All Things Digital reports. Sources close to All Things Digital said the official announcement of Mattrick’s appointment could be made as early as today, and that the executive has been in discussions with Zynga about the role for some time. The site adds that Mattrick has also been one of front-runners to step into the currently vacant CEO position at EA. As president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business department, Mattrick recently unveiled the Xbox One to the world at the company's May reveal of its next-generation console, but had to publicly change the console's heavily-criticized policies after consumer backlash. He joined Microsoft from EA in 2007. Zynga, which is responsible for social gaming title Farmville, has had a shaky time since it made the company public. Microsoft was not immediately available for comment. The Steam version of SimCity creator Maxis' RPG spin-off Darkspore has been yanked from Steam due to severe long-standing bugs that have rendered the game unplayable for some owners. The removal (spotted by Player Attack) from Steam follows frequent reports of instability from Darkspore, which requires an active connection to the internet in order to play, since its launch in 2011. One of the most frequent complaints on the game's official forums is for error code 73003, which first cropped up 12 months ago. "Error has gone unfixed. Likelihood of it being fixed is zero," said Darkspore forum moderator Inquisitor_Laine at the start of May. Another error, known as Error 3, made it unable for players to save changes or create new characters, though recent reports suggest that this error has now been fixed. "Darkspore is no longer developed," warns Inquisitor_Laine on the Darkspore forums, "for almost all intents & purposes an abandoned title. If you cannot play the game & have flicked through technical issues for any fixes, then contact EA Customer Support; especially if it regards CD-Keys or refunds." "Error 73003 has gone unfixed & remains an issue. Error Code 3 has arisen for the majority/all & remains an issue." "I will however keep the forums here as clean & tidy as possible in my spare time. Why? Well why not. If it helps anyone with minor problems, or find their way somewhere, then that's great. I wish you all luck, no matter what path you choose with Darkspore." Nintendo has lost a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), following an attempt to take ownership of the WiiU.com domain name, according to a report by Fusible. The case, which was filed by Nintendo of America in February this year, sought to turn over the privately held WiiU.com domain, which was originally registered in 2004; seven years before the announcement of the company's current game system in April 2011. The verdict, which was handed down over the weekend, found in favour of the original website holder. While no information was provided on Nintendo’s options or intentions to appeal the decision, the company may yet elect to attempt to purchase the domain from its current owner in a private sale. In May this year, Microsoft began proceedings with the National Arbitration Forum to claim ownership of the XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net domains, following the announcement of its upcoming next-generation home console. The two domains were originally registered in December 2011 and are currently held by a London resident. Read and Post Comments | Get the full article at GameSpot | |
