Forza Motorsport 5 will run in 1080p at 60fps Jun 5th 2013, 22:54 But Microsoft says it won't force developers to adhere to frame rates or resolutions.
Turn 10 Studios' upcoming Xbox One racer Forza Motorsport 5 will run at 60 frames per second in native 1080p resolution, the studio has confirmed. Speaking in an interview with GameSpot about the pressure of developing a Forza Motorsport in time for the Xbox One launch later in 2013, Turn 10 Studios' content director John Wendel said, "I believe we're uniquely positioned to deliver on that challenge. We're a huge epic game that's going to be running at 1080p, 60fps on the next-gen console, so it's an incredible opportunity on one hand, but you have to be incredibly flexible and agile and self-aware on the other hand." Elsewhere, in an interview with the latest issue of UK gaming magazine Edge, Microsoft Studios vice president Phil Spencer said that Microsoft will not force its Xbox One developers to adhere to specific frame rates or resolutions. "It's important we give creators the best tools to create the best experience possible," said Spencer, "and I don't think that platform holders can dictate what the internal frame buffer size should be." "Forza 5 runs at 60 frames per second, but other people will make different trade-offs," said Spencer, adding that "resolution is not the thing that maximises beauty." 2011's Forza Motorsport 4 ran at 60fps in 720p, but last year's spin-off, Forza Horizon, dropped to a frame rate of 30fps. Forza Motorsport 5 will be released later in 2013 alongside the Xbox One. Nintendo has called a previous report suggesting that US retailer GameStop is recalling the Wii U Basic, possibly to discontinue the model, a "misperception" of the situation. "There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware," said Nintendo senior director of corporate communications Charlie Scibetta to GameSpot. Nintendo did not deny that it has recalled some stock of its Wii U units across the major US retailer, but instead says its intentions are to "rebalance" the stock of its Wii U SKU's in the marketplace. "Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market," explained Scibetta. "Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available," concluded Scibetta. Yesterday's anonymous source said that, as of June 18, all GameStop stores will need to return any remaining stock of Wii U Basic consoles. When Nintendo launched the Wii U in November 2012 it shipped two models, the 8GB Basic and the 32GB Premium. Nintendo had sold 3.45 million Wii U units globally as of March 31, 2013, with fewer than 400,000 sold in the first three months of 2013.
