Hyperdimension Neptunia developer Compile Heart announced that its spin-off company Galapagos RPG will be releasing a new RPG called Fairy Fencer F. Both men used to work on the Final Fantasy series of games in their respective roles. The game is set in an alternate modern timeline on Earth where warriors called Fencers protect the world using weapons called Furies. The story revolves around a boy named Fang who accidentally becomes a Fencer after saving a female Fencer called Tiara. The developer has yet to reveal its combat system, though it said that players can level up their Furies through fights and can use a combination of attack chains and magic. The RPG is scheduled to be out this year in Japan. There is no word on a North American release at this point in time. Aliens: Colonial Marines co-developer TimeGate Studios has laid off its entire staff, two sources have told Kotaku. The company last week filed for bankruptcy protection. Calls to the company's Sugar Land, Texas office were forwarded to voicemail. Today's news comes a month after the developer lost a fraud appeal case against Southpeak Interactive, facing $7.35 million in damages and the loss of the Section 8 license as a result. The company laid off an unspecified number of people in early March. It is unclear how TimeGate Studios' free-to-play stylized PC shooter Minimum will be affected going forward. TimeGate Studios was founded in 1998 and created the real-time strategy series Kohan, which was first released in 2001. The developer's next project was 2004 RTS Axis & Allies, based on the board game of the same name. The developer moved into the first-person shooter space in 2006, when it released the F.E.A.R. Extraction Point expansion. TimeGate Studios would develop two additional F.E.A.R. expansions before creating multiplayer shooter Section 8 (2009) and its sequel Section 8: Prejudice (2011). TimeGate Studios' last released game was this year's Aliens: Colonial Marines, which it co-developed with Gearbox Software and Nerve Software. The PlayStation 4 is like a "perfect jewel," according to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag associate producer Sylvain Trottier. Speaking during Sony's latest Conversations with Creators video, the designer said it is up to developers to make the most of the next-generation platform. "The beauty of working with Sony honestly on this console for this generation was the fact that it was built for the game developers," Trottier said. "And to be really honest, Sony fixed all the issues that could have been there on the console and right now I think it's up to us; like we have a perfect jewel in our hand. It's up to us to push the bar and make it shine." Elsewhere in the video, Trottier explained that developing for PS4 has been "a lot more intuitive" and exploiting the platform's increased system specifications will allow Ubisoft to "push the bar" for graphics. "All little details that you cannot right now put on the current generation of consoles because the console is running 100 percent right now," he said. "So you cannot add all these little details that are going to make the game even more beautiful, more immersive. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag launches October 29 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U. The game is also in development for next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4. A release for Microsoft's next Xbox has not been confirmed yet. The PS4 launches this holiday season, though a specific date or price has not been announced thus far.
